i wish that i had jesse's sweater

The husband was a bad ass back in the day.

Once upon a time, in the days before a mortgage, before preschool and pediatrician visits, before insurance plans and savings accounts my husband was an outlaw. He ran from police, he raced cars, he went to parties in the Hollywood Hills, stayed up all night as a matter of course. He came by it naturally - his dad and grandpa were both Harley riders, his dad being known in his small Texas town when he was younger for his mohawk and daredevil riding. When I met the husband, it was at the tail end of his outlaw days (and what was left of my own oat sowing days) and although I wouldn't go out with him at first because I thought he was a drug dealer, although he had a hot rod truck and a '76 Eldorado Caddy (that's still with us by the way), although he would take me to Robert's Western World to see BR549 play on Monday nights and park his Harley (wearing a non-street legal helmet of course) on the sidewalk on lower Broad right in front of the bar and no one ever said anything for some reason, although he would sit in his front yard in a throne (yes, a throne) drinking beer and waving at the neighborhood sometimes even puling his TV out into said front yard while he sat and waved, and although he knew more weird people and had even more weird stories than anyone I've ever met, somehow I still married him. Ironically, he's the biggest stickler for seatbelt wearing I've ever met in my life. Go figure.

The husband is still a bad ass... a kinder, gentler, responsibility having marketing director type bad ass, but a bad ass nonetheless. He has always wanted me to make him a sweater that had a skull and crossbones on it. but I've never gotten the charting handled or found a skull that looked exactly right emblazoned on a big chest. But I found this Jesse Sweater in Stitch n Bitch Nation and the husband really liked it so I braved a month of Wool Ease and miles of black ribbing for the man. If that isn't love I don't know what is.

I really like it and he says that he's gotten quite a few compliments on it at work today. As the designer says in the book quoting the namesake of the sweater Monster Garage's Jesse James: everything looks better with flames.

Oh, and if you happen to meet either one of our children any time before they graduate from college, please don't mention the running from the police thing. Or the racing thing. Or the beer drinking or the parties or the... really just stick to the weather.

Bad ass husbands are the BEST! I have one myself and highly recommend them. They definitely deserve knitting love and you, my dear, you delivered the perfect bad ass knitting project. Rock-n-Roll!

Great Johnny Cash-esque pose, too!

Angela , Your fine talent with a pair o needles is only surpassed by your knack for telling a good story.
... And hubby still looks like a badass.

I have no words for how awesome that f*&%ing sweater is. And for being nasty "Wool" Ease, it looks great even like wool. You, too, are a bad ass, Angela.

Dear Angela, I find your so-called Bad-Ass Hubby very unwholesome and quite exciting.

But o the horror of a month of Wool-Ease. You poor thing.

You amaze me! I can not for the life of me figure out how you get all these fantastic things done with two little ones running around. You must not ever sleep. :) I love the sweater as well as all the other cool stuff you have made and posted on the blog. You are my hero. I want to be just like you when I grow up.

i always wanted to marry a rebel
but instead I married a good ol boy.
your children will love the stories about him when they are older where my children will have to listen to horror stories about me instead of my husband
