If you are a resident of Nashville or preparing for a move to this city, there is a good chance that the flood this spring may have damaged your home. Thousands of homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed by the flood that created over a billion dollars worth of damage in the city. If you’re home was damaged in the flood, the first step you’ll need to take is assessing the damage done. From there you’ll need to find a construction or repairs company to fix any problems you may have. It is required that you obtain a permit before repairs are made to a water damaged home. Normally such a permit would have to be obtained in person at the Department of Codes Administration, but because of the unusual circumstances surrounding this natural disaster, the city has made provisions for such a permit to be obtained online.Another important step in this process if finding and receiving financial assistance for your home repairs. There are several ways to go about this. You can file a claim online with FEMA in order to be considered for disaster assistance. A questionnaire can be taken first to help you understand and determine for what type of assistance you are eligible. The deadline to register for disaster relief assistance is Tuesday July 6^th. The Community Foundation is an organization set up to provide disaster relief to Middle Tennessee. If you haven’t personally been affected and want to donate to this fund you can do so online, text FLOOD to 501501 to donate 10, or mail in your donations.
